The Rock Cycle Diagrams Printables

If you are learning about the cycle of rock, a useful way to help you is by studying the diagram. A rock cycle diagram illustrates how the three main types of rock are related to one another and how changes to rocks happen in a recurring sequence is the rock cycle. Enhance students’ understanding of rock formation and classification with the rock cycle diagrams. Use this printable as a reference or a review tool.

The rock cycle is a basic concept in geology that describes the time-consuming transitions through geologic time among the three main rock types: sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous. Igneous rock can change into sedimentary rock or into metamorphic rock. Sedimentary rock can change into metamorphic rock or into igneous rock. Metamorphic rock can change into igneous or sedimentary rock. The following the rock cycle diagrams will show you more details on the types of rock cycle.

Metamorphic rocks are created by intense heat and pressure. The pressure and/or heat is so intense that it can transform the basic properties of another type of rock. Typically tectonic processes (the processes responsible for the moving of the continents) create metamorphic rocks, but they can also be created through smaller scale collisions and pressure situations. Meanwhile, Sedimentary rocks are created through the process of sediment deposit and consolidation.
