When you come to it, the foot is actually a very complicated structure. On this page, we provide numerous foot anatomy images, including illustrations of the bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments in the foot and ankle along with descriptions of the structures. The inside (medial), outside (lateral) and front (anterior) and back of the foot (posterior) are shown in the image below. In the first view, titled medial view, the inside of the arch and ankle are shown. More details can be seen in the following diagrams.

The feet are flexible structures of bones, joints, muscles, and soft tissues that let us stand upright and perform activities like walking, running, and jumping. The forefoot contains the five toes (phalanges) and the five longer bones (metatarsals). The midfoot is a pyramid-like collection of bones that form the arches of the feet. These include the three cuneiform bones, the cuboid bone, and the navicular bone. The hindfoot forms the heel and ankle. Look at the other diagrams below.
