Data flow diagram provided above is the example of the creator set of the diagram. A data flow diagram is a graphical representation of the “flow” of data through an information system, modelling its process aspects. It is often used as a preliminary step to create an overview of the system without going into great detail, which can later be elaborated. DFDs can also be used for the visualization of data processing (structured design) since it maps out the flow of information for any process or system. It uses defined symbols like rectangles, circles and arrows, plus short text labels, to show data inputs, outputs, storage points and the routes between each destination. The diagrams show how information enters and leaves the system, what changes the information and where information is stored. You can use this diagram to show the scope and boundaries of a system as a whole. A process receives input data and produces output with a different content or form. A rounded rectangle represents a process. Processes are given IDs for easy referencing. Straight lines with incoming arrows are input data flow. Straight lines with outgoing arrows are output data flows.
